CONCERNS OF THE NORTHERNER
What is being mooted by Chief Emeka Anyaoku of Ohanaeze Ndigbo
has been the standard approach by the Southern Groups to engage the North. Are we ready to accept to engage any group to examine the foundation of our union which seem to be the recurring issue, and the nature, and solution to our political, economic and security challenges.
After all, democracy can bring about progress only if there are changes through robust debates, as we understand it.
Let me reiterate that the first and needed initial step, I believe, is that Northern Nigeria must go to the drawing board and generate a Vision, an Agenda, a Road Map, a Blue Print or what ever we may call it, that will encapsulate the true aspirations of the North in an Economy that is now Global from any Local scenario.
Since 2015, Northerners have occupied positions with the potential to make decisive differences in the economy, security or political fortunes of the region.
Are we now ready to make difference and face the challenge posed by by the South as equals?
We have experienced weak governance, gross insensitivity and unacceptable levels of incompetence compounded by battles of attrition in which we sapped each other’s strength.
Weak and incoherent responses to such provocation from the South around the imperatives of revisiting the foundations and structures of Nigerian state have created the false image of the North without its own position beyond survival as the parasite of Nigeria.
Are you ready and prepared to sit and bring to forth a united position?
The gains of 2015 was wasted by the poor management of conflicts between and amongst Northern communities. Our leaders are turning our misery into electoral capital and ready to ripe then and coming 2027.
Haven’t you visualised this?
The truth is what we have been dealing with this and similar issues at every fora created to address challenges in the North.
How much have we fared, where did we go wrong and how can the “TRANSFORMATION AGENDA” of GEJ to “CHANGE AGENDA/NEXT LEVEL” of PMB to the current “RENEWED HOPE” agenda of PBAT be able to reinvent values, institutions and systems that can make us greater?
The ACF, which identified itself as a Cultural Association has by that name removed itself from serious frontal political discussion affecting Northern States. The NU that identified itself with Northern political aspiration is already gone with the demise of its leader, Oloye, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki; the NEF is now silent with the aging Prof Ango Abdullahi, while other Northern tink-tanks like the ARDP are habinating, on the assumption to be strategising on what, only God knows. This is the current situation and by God has been “REACTIONARY” in nature and design.
We must sit down to decide whether we want to stay together and how, or part ways amicably. We can never wait out this issue. It’s got to be addressed sooner than later.
Let me recall whether it was during the OBJ’s political party conference or the GEJ constituent Conference, when Katsina State delegation had only 3 point agenda that addressed Police, Judiciary and Prison. This appears to be addressing law and order only.
Yes, agreed, the judiciary is highly centralised as well as Policing and Prison, BUT, we need to have robust agenda touching other aspects of our development.
May be there could be a better approach in this political clime, with younger blood at the helm of ACF who understand that such meetings require serious Agenda preparations, covering all known issues bedevilling the North. It may not be out of place to suggest some areas of cooperation.
