Nigerian House of Representatives has passed for second reading a Bill For An Act To Amend The National Primary Health Care Development Agency Act, 2004 To Improve The Effectiveness Of Primary Health Care Delivery In Nigeria; And For Related Matters (Hb. 1837

This was sequel to a Bill sponsored by Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun representing Lagos Mainland federal constituency of Lagos State during Thursday plenary at the green chamber in Abuja.

Hon. Moshood Oshun noted that the Bill seeks to establish at least one Primary Health Care Centre in every Local Government Area in Nigeria.

According to him “Research has shown that access to primary health services is linked to better health outcomes, which is particularly important for isolated or deprived population groups that may not have the means to access these services otherwise as health is wealth.

“It is disheartening to note that some Local Government areas do not have this all-important institution, making it extremely difficult to access lifesaving medical attention, especially in times of a health emergency”.

Hon. Oshun added that the Bill when passed into law will enhance the most inclusive, equitable and cost-effective way to achieve Universal Health Coverage while improving the life and health of rural dwellers in the country.
