EKITI BEGINS MOVE TO REVIEW EXISTING LAWS
…as Attorney General, Dayo Apata SAN, Promises to come up with contemporary laws
Ekiti State Government, through the Law Reform Commission, has launched a workshop to review existing laws and introduce progressive reforms that will align the state’s legal framework with contemporary societal needs and international standards.
Speaking during a 2-day stakeholders’ workshop in Ado Ekiti, the State, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Dayo Apata SAN explained that the exercise was to get necessary input needed to achieve credible legal system that would promote transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Barrister Apata noted that the reviewed version of the law would explore various areas of laws, from civil to criminal, governance, economic regulations, address deficiencies and propose reforms that would enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of legal system in Ekiti state .
He expressed gratitude to the Ekiti State House of Assembly, under the able leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Stephen Adeoye Aribasoye for exceptional support in this critical undertaking of reviewing the Laws of Ekiti State and acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Chairman and members of the Board of the Law Reform Commission to ensure success at the end of the exercise.
On his own, the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Steven Aribasoye, urged participants and committee members to engage thoughtfully and passionately in discussions, and to implement reforms that would uphold the values of justice and fairness in the state.
Also, Chairman of the Council of Obas and Olojudo of Ido, Oba Ayorinde Faboro, expressed delight at the government’s commitment to reforming laws and policies to meet the evolving needs of its citizens.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders and dignitaries, including the Ewi of Ado, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, the President of the Ekiti State Customary Court of Appeal, the Head of Service, House of Assembly members, judges, and other legal experts.
In their remarks,the Acting Chief Judge of the state represented by Justice Segun Ogunmoye and former commissioner for Justice in the State, Mr Owoseni Ajayi said the review was needed to meet up with contemporary legal system.
