South of Ottawa: Runaway goat disrupts traffic, rescued with help from fellow goat

An escaped goat south of Ottawa managed to stir up more than just traffic and also unleashed a flood of puns from even the most stoic Ontario Provincial Police officers.

The caper began Wednesday night, when reports started coming in about a goat on the loose in Grenville County, near the intersection of Highways 416 and 401, close to the U.S. border.

“We’re not kidding you!” police announced on X (formerly Twitter), accompanying their update with a flurry of wordplay, puns, and double entendres.

“This little guy caused quite the disruption,” they added.

Grenville OPP detachment officers responded to several traffic hazard complaints over several hours, describing the escapee as a “baaaad boy” darting onto nearby highways.

Border officers, spotting OPP members in pursuit of the fugitive, stepped in to assist.

“By chance, a member of the public passing by had another goat with them along with some food,” the officers reported.

That unexpected stroke of luck helped them build trust with the runaway, whom they dubbed “Vincent Van Goat,” or “Vinny” for short.

“With rapport established, they moved in close enough to safely secure him.

Police later confirmed that “Vinny” had quickly found a new home with a nearby resident.

There were no reports of vehicle damage or injuries.

“Never a ‘baaahring’ day in Grenville County,” the police concluded.
