FG announces monthly Payment for technical college students
The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a monthly payment of N45,000 for students in technical colleges across the country.
This move is aimed at improving technical and vocational education, which has suffered years of low interest and limited attention.
The announcement came as part of the Federal Government’s effort to rebuild the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
It is expected that the new payment will attract more young people to technical colleges and give them better chances at gaining practical skills and finding jobs both in Nigeria and abroad.
The monthly payment is not a loan, but a grant.
Students who receive it will not be required to repay it.
Apart from this allowance, the government also plans to take care of students’ training fees, pay instructors supervising students during industrial training, and handle the cost of certification for skills acquired.
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, shared that this effort is part of a bigger plan to revive interest in technical education, which was once popular during the colonial and early independence years.
