Governor Idris breaks tradition, backs transparent Emirship
… as Sanusi Sami ascends throne

The emergence of Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as the new Emir of Zuru has been greeted with widespread joy and relief across the emirate.
Unlike the often turbulent and politically entangled process that marks emirship selections in Northern Nigeria, this succession stood out for its transparency and fairness, a testament to Governor Nasir Idris’s resolve to uphold the will of the people.
With more than 30 eminently qualified princes vying for the throne, expectations were understandably high.
Yet, one candidate towered above the rest; Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami.
His popularity was no accident. Known for his humility, accessibility, and people-oriented disposition, he had long endeared himself to the people of Zuru and beyond.
As the son of Mika’ilu Sami, elder brother of the late Emir Sani Sami, he combined royal pedigree with a record of integrity, deep religious conviction, and strong communal trust, qualities that gave him a decisive edge.
Governor Idris, a firm believer in due process, directed the kingmakers to carry out their duties without interference.
True to his reputation as a fair-minded leader, honed during his years as National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and later Deputy National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, he resisted external pressures and allowed the will of the people to prevail.
The kingmakers, attuned to both the governor’s stance on justice and the pulse of the people, unanimously presented the name of Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami.
Governor Idris swiftly ratified their choice, a decision that has since won broad public acclaim and etched a historic moment in the annals of Zuru Emirate.
A land famed for its contribution to Nigeria’s food security and proud military heritage, Zuru deserves a leader who embodies its values.
