Surety arraigned over failure to produce son in Court for trial

The police on Thursday arraigned one Iyabo Moradeyo before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly failing to produce a defendant in court for trial.
Moradeyo had stood surety for her son, Gbolagade Adedotun, in a separate criminal case but allegedly failed to present him in court on several occasions.

She was consequently charged with perverting the course of justice and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the offence was committed on June 26, 2024, at about 9:00 a.m. at Court 11 of the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan.
Owolabi said the defendant stood surety for her son, who is standing trial on charges bordering on stealing, but failed to produce him when the case was called on different dates.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 126 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Gladys Olanrewaju granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must be civil servants.
The case was adjourned until April 15 for hearing.
