Ondo State Grants 100MW Power License to Ore Power, ASB Valiant
The Ondo State Government, through the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB), has granted power generation and distribution licenses to Ore Power Limited and ASB Valiant Electricity Limited under the Ondo State Electricity Law, 2020.
The milestone event, held in Akure, marks a significant step toward delivering reliable electricity to residents and fostering economic growth across the state.
In his goodwill message, the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership and commitment to transforming the electricity sector.
He emphasized that the administration remains dedicated to building a functional, independent, and investor-driven electricity market. He also praised the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enacting reforms particularly the Electricity Act which have enabled states like Ondo to take control of their power markets.
According to Engr. Alabi, the licensing initiative is a deliberate effort to ensure stable electricity supply for households and industries, recognizing power as a critical driver of economic development.
He highlighted key interventions by the state government, including:
Subsidized metering to promote transparency and fair billing
Establishment of three Special Electricity Courts for dispute resolution and enforcement
Development of a state wide electricity grid spanning Ondo South, Central, and North
Takeover of NDPHC assets for commercial electricity operations
Creation of a structured and regulated state electricity market
“The projects we celebrate today represent a coordinated approach to efficient power generation, evacuation, and distribution. Ondo State is no longer waiting for solutions, we are creating them,” he stated.
Earlier, OSERB State Coordinator, Engr. Stephen Bolawole, noted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a reliable and investment-driven electricity market.
He explained that Ore Power Limited, a state-backed embedded generation company, is expected to deliver up to 100MW of electricity to improve supply reliability and support industrial growth in the Ore axis and surrounding areas.
Complementing this effort, ASB Valiant Electricity Limited will develop an 18-kilometre Omotoso–Ore 33KV double-circuit line to enhance power evacuation and distribution to end users.
Bolawole stressed that the licenses are binding legal instruments aligned with both the Ondo State Electricity Law, 2020, and the national Electricity Act, and urged the companies to meet performance expectations and regulatory standards.
Also speaking, the CEO of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA), Barr. Emmanuel Omomowo represented by Engr. Femi Akarakiri reaffirmed the state’s commitment to attracting value-adding investments.
In his remarks, Ore Power Limited CEO, Mr. Ayodele Ikumapayi, described Ondo State as a leader in Nigeria’s electricity sector. He expressed confidence that the plant would commence power supply within six months and eventually serve the entire electricity value chain, with expansion plans for the northern senatorial district underway.
The event concluded with the official presentation of licenses to the companies.
