Fear grips Ondo community as gunmen abduct LG worker, petrol attendant

Fear and anxiety have enveloped Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State following the abduction of a local government worker, Mr Samson Gbenga Sanni, popularly known as “Timber,” by suspected gunmen.

Sanni was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:10 p.m. on Sunday in front of his residence in the Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo community, Akure North Local Government Area.

Sources in the community disclosed that the attackers, believed to be three in number, emerged from a nearby bush and forcefully whisked the victim away to an unknown destination.

The abducted council worker, who is said to be an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, had just arrived home when the gunmen struck.

It was gathered that his wife and two children were inside the house at the time of the incident and watched helplessly as the assailants carried out the operation.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security operatives had launched efforts to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

According to the police spokesperson, officers and tactical teams have been deployed to the area and are intensifying efforts to ensure the safe return of the victim while bringing those responsible to justice.

The abduction has heightened anxiety among residents and further fuelled concerns over the growing security challenges in parts of the state.

Meanwhile, a female petrol station attendant was also reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen while on duty in the Emure-Ile area of Owo Local Government Area.

Sources said the victim was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday by unidentified assailants, who took her to an unknown destination.

The latest incidents have renewed calls for stronger security measures to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and violent crimes across Ondo State.
