Bayelsa Police Recover Locally Made Pistol in Tombia, Launch Manhunt for Suspects

Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have recovered a locally made pistol after a group of youths fled during a routine patrol in Tombia, Yenagoa.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m.

Police officers attached to Ekeki Divisional Headquarters were on patrol along Osiri Road, Tombia, when they sighted a group of youths allegedly taking illicit drugs.

The suspects fled on sighting the police, abandoning one locally made pistol at the scene, which was recovered by the operatives.

“Investigation has commenced, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” DSP Mohammed stated.

He added that the Command remains committed to proactive policing and urged residents to provide credible information to help combat crime and improve public safety across the state.
