Tinubu’s Aide donates ₦50,000 each to rescued Oyo schoolchildren
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Mr Sunday Dare, has donated ₦50,000 each to 25 schoolchildren recently rescued from captivity in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The beneficiaries are among the pupils who have been discharged from hospital and reunited with their families following their release from captivity last Friday.
Dare announced the donation during a visit to the families of the rescued children in Ibadan on Tuesday, assuring them of the Federal Government’s continued support and commitment to the welfare of the victims.
He disclosed that the remaining 14 pupils still receiving medical treatment would also receive the same financial support after being certified fit for discharge.
The visit coincided with the emotional reunion of some of the rescued children with their families after undergoing treatment for trauma and other health complications arising from their 56-day ordeal in captivity.
There were scenes of joy and relief as parents embraced their children, expressing gratitude to the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, and security agencies for securing their safe release.
Before reuniting with their families, the rescued pupils and their teachers were received by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Government House in Ibadan.
The victims were abducted by armed men from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, an incident that sparked widespread outrage and heightened concerns over insecurity in the state.
The abduction also prompted protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and several human rights organisations, which urged President Bola Tinubu and Governor Makinde to intensify efforts to secure the victims’ freedom.
The pupils and their teachers eventually regained their freedom last Friday after spending 56 days in captivity, bringing an end to weeks of anxiety for their families and the wider community.
