Fake investor docked for duping businessman to the tune of N4.2. By John Dike Osogbo

Osun Osun Police Command has dragged a 50-year-old fake investor, Sola Adekanbi, before a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly defrauding a businesswoman of the sum of N4,280,000,00.

Police Prosecutor, Anifowoshe Saheed, told the court that Adekanbi pretended to be an investor before obtaining the money from one Oluwumi Ajayi.

He said that the accused committed the offence sometime in the year 2021 in Osogbo.

The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant allegedly stole the sum of Four Million, Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira only (N4,280,000,00) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The second count of the charge read, “That you Sola Adekanbi, in the same place and time, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did with intent to defraud, obtain the sum of Four Million, Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira only (N4,280,000,00) from one Oluwumi Ajayi under the pretence of investing the money into your business which you know to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

Adekanbi pleaded not guilty to the allegations. After the defence counsel applied for bail, Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties in the same amount.

He directed that one of the sureties must be a state civil servant. The matter was adjourned till May 16, 2022 for hearing.

Relatedly, a 36-year-old man, Ibraheem Wasiu, has been docked for stealing from a resident of the state and also assaulting him afterwards.

The charge reads, “That you Ibrahim Wasiu on the 1st of April, 2023 at Igbona Area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District did steal one small Alcatel mobile phone valued Fourteen Thousand Naira (N14,000) only and a sum of Three Thousand Six Hundred Naira (N3,600) only, properties of one Ogunleke Isiaka and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 389 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“That you Ibraheem Wasiu on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did assault one Ogunleke Isiaka and caused him to sustain injury on his left cheek and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 355of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

The accused person was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like
