Unknown gunmen have kidnapped two persons believed to be landlords on Sunday in Abuja, demanding a ransom of not less than N20 million for their victims to regain freedom.
A source who shed light on the incident said that development took place at Asokoro extension of the Federal Capital Territory.
The source had corroborated a report that the armed gang had succeeded in seizing a landlord, leading to access to the another victim, who was about to enter his house at the time.
Another source within the location informed that the incident took place at about 11pm on Sunday.
He explained that, one of the lanlords had been outside the building trying to receive fresh air as a result of heat in the interior when the assailants seized him at gunpoint.
The source who gave his identity as Joe said that the kidnappers compelled their victim to knock on the gate of one of the houses close by, in order to gain entrance and abduct more people.
Joe also claimed that unfortunately, some unsuspecting neighbours who recognized the victim’s voice and opened the gate, leading to the kidnappers’ easy access to kidnapp another victim.
The source who spoke on good authority explained that, the abductors had made phone call to the concerned victims’ families, demanding N20 million as ransom for the freedom of the landlords.
He said that the kidnappers reached out to the families of their victims few minutes past 1am on Monday and placed a demand for N10m from each victims.
He added that the abductors threatened to kill if their demands were not met in full.
Confirming the incident, the Commander of Asokoro Vigilante Group of Nigeria, (Asokoro VGN), Mohammed Seidu, assured that since the Sunday incident, the group has been in touch with the police authorities in an effort to ensure the rescue of the kidnapped victims.
Meanwhile, some residents of the FCT have reacted to the unfortunate development calling on people to be security conscious.
They were unanimous in their comments that the kinapping was directly connected to the approaching Christmas, coupled with general hardship currently being experienced in the country.
A security expert, Austin Dere ( of the Brightstone Security Services, BSS), advised the public to be more sensitive of their environment and be conscious of movements of persons, calling on the police to be proactive in foiling crimes associated with the ember months.
