In order to curb corruption which has truncated the development of the country, stakeholders have been urged to tackle the menace to move states and the country forward and make life worth living for the citizenry.
The Director, Community Heritage Watch For Development Initiative, Mr Olusola Adeosun made the call while addressing journalists to commemorate the 2023 international World Anti Corruption Day held in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Adeosun described corruption as the most dangerous problem in the country which has eaten deep into the system and cannot be done without.
“The theme for this year’s international World Anti Corruption day is “UNCAC at 20; Uniting the world with Anticorruption” The SCALE project is a five year Anti corruption project on social inclusive reform initiative in Nigeria”.
He said the 2023 Global peace Index has rated Nigeria as the 144th corrupt country globally and 37th in Africa.
He urged Nigerians to take proactive steps to tackle the menace, advising people to be just because anybody that must talk about equity must come with a clean hand.
He charged the National Assembly to pass the necessary bills that will move the state forward.
While speaking on the political crisis in the State, Adeosun disclosed that the civil Society Organisations have called the parties to order advising that they adhere to the President’s order.
In a brief reaction, the Chief Executive Officer of the Speaking Voice, Mrs Bola Inyang, expressed the need for everyone to speak out and to follow the law so that the state can move forward.
“Curbing corruption is the job of everyone, we should all work on our moral values, we should all rise up to the occasion and do the needful, so that we can leave a posterity for our generation unborn,” she said.
She charged the media professional to do the needful and avoid any form of incentives which may negate their professional duties .
