Gov. Akeredolu Seeks Further Medical Help Abroad, Transfers Power to Deputy ahead of Leave.


In a move to seek improvement of his health condition, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State is to proceed on medical leave on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, as a follow-up to his medical treatment.
This was disclosed in a statement made public and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde in Akure, the state capital on Tuesday.
Governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde has said that a letter of transmission of power to the deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa will be made available to the state assembly on Wednesday as his principal proceeds on medical leave.

The governor is seeking medical leave abroad to futher take care of his failing health.
Akeredolu’s spokesperson said that his boss medical leave will help the governor prioritise his health and ensure a full recovery before resuming his official duties.
Richard Olatunde said that , “a formal letter regarding the medical leave and a notice formally transferring power in line with the Nigerian Constitution will be transmitted to the House of Assembly.
“In the absence of Governor Akeredolu, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will assume the responsibilities of the Governor in acting capacity.
“Governor Akeredolu expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support and affection of the people of Ondo State.
“He assures them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.
“As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a widely respected Nigerian, Governor Akeredolu has consistently delegated power to his deputy during his annual vacations.
He added that this would not be the first time that Akeredolu will be transferring power to his deputy: “This practice was observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, when he embarked on previous vacations.”
Recall that Akeredolu’s health status has been a subject of controversy since he returned from his first medical trips which lasted a couple of months.
One of such controversies was the fact that the governor’s signature was doctored by a member of his political cycle, leading to a call for his resignation.
Governor Akeredolu is alleged to be suffering from leukemia also known as blood cancer, just as his health condition is yet to be officially made public.
