RUGIPO Alumni Hold End of Year Party in Abuja with Success Stories, Task Interior Minister on Employment. By Olawale Lamina

It was a long role call of dignitaries as the members of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic alumni, Abuja Chapter converged on the popular International Conference Center, ICC, Aso Hall, to celebrate the 2023 end of year party and the inauguration of Roland Adesina Development Foundation on Saturday.

During his opening address, Chairman of RUGIPO alumni, Abuja Chapter, Otunba Abubakar Adesina, used the occasion to reel out the association’s achievements in over 11 years of existence, saying that, “RUGIPO Abuja chapter has been blazing the trail ever since inception, and it has contributed immensely to our members and even given back to our alma mata. A few out of the many achievements include:
Outright purchase of Alumni Siena Bus for ease of movement, Facilitation of Rugipo Alumni Housing Estate at Idu, Abuja, Establishment of Alumni Cooperative Society Limited, Establishment of Alumni Microfinance Bank, which is in progress and awaiting approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Purchase of LockUp Shop for the take-off of Alumni Microfinance Bank in Lugbe Abuja,
Production of incentives for the students of RUGIPO every year since 2017.”

Other remarkable achievements by the alumni leadership include establishment of Roland Development Foundation, constant elaborate End of the year Party since 2017, facilitation of 60 Solar Street light into the Rugipo ALUMNI Housing Estate, Idu Abuja made possible by Chief Netufo Olaniyi ( Chairman of the Occasion), facilitation of employment opportunities for the members of RUGIPO Alumni, Abuja Chapter, recently, the facilitation of Solar Borehole Project at the Polytechnic main campus in Ọwọ costing about N5 million, distribution of Rice and vegetable oil incentives to RUGIPO Alumni Association Abuja Chapter members in 2023 and collaborating government’s efforts by distributing palliatives to members during the Covid 19 pandemic.

But, Otunba Adesina particularly made a passionate appeal to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to among other assistance ensure the employment of about 70 members of the association in whatever capacity.

The alumni chairman thanked those who contributed meaningfully to the alma matter and acknowledged the presence of personalities who graced the event.

He also gave kudos to the executive members of the association and others for always supporting the RUGIPO alumni to embark on laudable projects.

In his goodwill message, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo charged Rufus Giwa Alumni association to remain focused on building up individuals as a way of enthroning a lasting legacy.

The minister expressed delight for being part of the guests to grace the occasion.

He commended the exco of the alumni for their good jobs so far, while appreciating the President of RUGIPO for his support to the alumni’s overall development.

He gave a hint about the imminent upgrade of the polytechnic to a university, which he reasoned would enhance the number of students of the institution.

The Interior minister pledged his support for the alumni, even as he promised to look into their demand for the employment of members of the group based on the demand placed before him by the alumni chairman, Abubakar Adesina.

Ojo made an undisclosed financial support to the association, towards achieving its laudable programmes.

Meanwhile, the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, RUGIPO alumni association has launched Development Foundation in Memory of Roland Adesina in effort to immortalize one of its members for his worthy contributions towards the development of the association.

Speaking during the launching, the Foundation President, Hon. Femi Adekanbi said that the initiative came through the pioneer of RUGIPO, Abuja chapter, to keep the memories of the dead alive.

He explained that the need to immortalize late Roland Adesina was in recognition of his contributions to the activities of the body.

He emphasized that part of the visions of the foundation include catering for the less privileged, helping to reduce the number of out of school children, provision of social amenities and scholarship for the less privileged.

He commended the interior minister
for helping to put Ondo State on the world map. as one of the performing ministers in Nigeria today.

The Foundation President made a donation of N1million during the launch.

Moreover, the RUGIPO Alumni, Abuja Chapter conferred an award of Performing Minister on the Minister of Interior for distinguishing himself as a distinguished member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet in Nigeria today.

Similarly, Chief Adeola Adesina Victor, President of the alumni, in his remark appreciated all chairmen of the existing six chapters and executive members for their contributions.

He informed that the alumni as part of its contributions to the development of society embarked on massive solar installations, sinking of boreholes in the institution, rehabilitation of some parts of the institution.

He expressed the confidence that, in the coming year, more chapters would be inaugurated.

Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Netufo Olaniyi (Corporate Director Rural Electrification Agency) in his address said that, as one of the pioneer students of Ondo State Polytechnic, now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in 1979, he witnessed the giant strides of the institution and its graduates.

He thanked the alumni members for their achievements so far, while corroborating the Minister’s suggestions for the group to move further by embarking on projects that could positively impact the alumni members and the institution directly, including establishment of micro-finance bank and construction of lecturers quarters at the polytechnic.

He also encouraged the exco of the association to consider going into farming, bakery and other ventures.
