About the new Director of Public Prosecution, Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo
Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, SAN, the newly appointed Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of the Federation, as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on December 30, 2025, is a prominent Nigerian legal practitioner and prosecutor with widely recognized expertise in asset forfeiture and the prosecution of complex financial crimes.
The renewed legal practitioner earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Ilorin in 2007, attended the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, and was called to the Bar in 2008.
Oyedepo served for over 15 years at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), handling high-profile economic crimes.
He was also the Head of the Monitoring Unit at the EFCC, and was a part of the federal government’s legal team that handled the landmark P&ID case (Process and Industrial Development vs. Federal Republic of Nigeria).
On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, President Tinubu approved his transfer to the mainstream Federal Civil Service to serve as the Director of Public Prosecution, succeeding Abubakar Babadoko.
In 2022, the seasoned lawyer was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Oyedepo has earned several awards owing to his outstanding performances at different stages of his law career. These awards include
EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year (2014), Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor (awarded in 2019 and 2020) and NYSC Merit Award (2009).
He belongs to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), International Bar Association (IBA), African Bar Association, and the International Association of Prosecutors.
Oyedepo is married with four children to a nursing professional, Dr. Victoria Oluwabunmi Rotimi-Oyedepo, who earned her PhD from Babcock University in 2025.
Apart from his legal career, Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo is an assistant pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
