APC Elects Prof. Nentawe Yolwatda as national chairman
Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has been elected as the new national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yilwatda replaces Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down from the role due to health concerns.
The decision followed a late-night meeting on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by President Tinubu, APC governors, and other key party stakeholders.
A member of the party’s National Working Committee revealed that the leadership wanted a fresh face who had not been part of the usual political circles.
The source also said Yilwatda’s religious background played a part in balancing the leadership structure of the party.
Before his current role, Yilwatda contested as APC’s governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 elections.
He became Minister in 2023 and has previously served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State under INEC.
