Bauchi Police nab man for repeated sexual assault on minor

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a six-year-old minor in the state.

In a statement at the weekend, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, said the suspect, identified as Bilal Ya’u (20), was apprehended following a report by the girl’s father.

“On the 06/01/2026 at about 1300hrs, a 45-year-old father reported at the Divisional Police headquarters, Alkaleri, that on the 05/01/2026 his daughter (name withheld), aged 6yrs was lured by one Bilal Ya’u ‘m’ aged 20 years, who was a neighbour, into an uncompleted building and forcefully had carnal knowledge of the minor.”

The spokesperson said that upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by Kadiri Danjuma, DPO of Alkaleri, immediately rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to General Hospital, Alkaleri, for medical examination and treatment.

He added that the suspect was successfully apprehended and, during interrogation, confessed to the crimes.

The statement revealed that the suspect had previously abused the same minor in 2024 during the rainy season, for which he was only warned by the mother to stay away from her daughter.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the allegation against him, and further exposed that he sexually harassed the victim.

“Additionally, it was discovered that the suspect had sometimes in 2024 during the rainy season rape the same minor and was warned by the mother to stay away from her daughter,” the statement revealed.

The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion.
