The Canadian police have declared a Nigerian man, Chukwuka Williams, wanted for defrauding the public to the tune of $275,000.

According to the Canadian authorities, Williams was declared wanted following his failure to appear before the court on 10 counts of fraud and 11 counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

This was disclosed by Edmonton City News and other major media in Canada on Friday.

“A man is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant as part of a romance scam during which he allegedly posed as being in the military and needing financial help, leading to victims losing a combined $275,000,” the report said.

According to Peel Regional Police, the 30-year-old sent random social media friend requests to his unsuspecting victims across Canada between June 2020 and September 2021, falsely claiming to be an active-duty military member stationed overseas.

Over time, police said the friendly conversations evolved into what the victims believed to be a genuine relationship.

The Nigerian allegedly fabricated scripted stories, claiming he needed financial aid to return home from military deployment, and defrauded 11 victims from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec to the tune of $275,000.

Williams was described as six-foot-one, 165 pounds, with black hair, short dreadlocks, and brown eyes. He has multiple tattoos on his body, including his chest and forearms.
