Clerics seek violence-free poll as APC, PDP, others wrestle power in Ekiti

Muslim clerics have called for credible and violence-free elections as All Progressive Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), others prepare for the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.

The Clerics gave this advice on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, during a statewide prayer that wraps up the 30-day holy month.

At the Ado Ekiti Central Eid praying ground, the president general league of Imam and Alfas in South West Edo and Delta State, who is also the Chief Imam of Ado-Ekiti, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello   called on Muslims and Nigerians to sustain their prayer life after Ramadan and continue to seek God’s intervention for peace and good governance at all levels, from the President to state governors.

Also speaking with journalists, the Centre Missionary of Hamadiyah Muslim Community in Ekiti State, Olowomi Toheed, emphasised the importance of active participation in the electoral process, urging citizens to vote wisely and in accordance with moral and religious values in the forthcoming elections.

“What this holy month is teaching us is that it’s time to render help to others without waiting for any government to come to our aide at all times, we should continue doing that after after the holy month.

“We want peace to reign in Nigeria and Ekiti. We implore our people to vote according to the message of Allah because the rights to vote is for all human beings.

“We need to vote and vote for the right people in the coming election”.

“The message to Muslims in total and all Nigerans to be united, let’s remember the lessons in the holy month.

Let’s put those lessons we have learnt into practice so that there will be peace and harmony in Nigeria. Let’s also have the fear of God, its very important for all and our leaders and we should have faith that it’s only God that can do it and not human.

“As Muslims, don’t let your prayers be limited to during Ramadan alone, let it continue after the holy month”. He added

The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Professor Abibat Adubiaro, congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, urging them to sustain the virtues of love, compassion, empathy and selflessness imbibed during the holy month.

She also encouraged continued prayers for both the state and federal governments to ensure the actualisation of development goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking on security, Adubiaro reassured residents that the state government is committed to maintaining peace and stability across Ekiti, noting that Ekiti remains one of the most peaceful states in the country and urged citizens to continue to live harmoniously with one another, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

Her words, “The State Government congratulates the Muslims and urged them to uphold the virtues of the season.

“Let’s continue with the virtue of love, compassion, empathy and selflessness and they should continue praying for the success of the state government and federal government so that the vision of renewed hope agenda will come to reality.

“On security, the government is trying everything possible to make sure the state is peaceful and we know that Ekiti is very peaceful and we want them to continue living peacefully with others”.
