Deadly suicide bombing hits mosque in Maiduguri

Several worshippers were feared killed on Tuesday evening after a suicide bomber attacked the Gambarou Jumu’at Mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Eyewitnesses said the attacker sneaked into the mosque and detonated an explosive device during the Maghrib congregational prayer. The explosion occurred during the first raka’at, killing many worshippers instantly and leaving several others with varying degrees of injuries.
Survivors described scenes of panic and chaos as people tried to flee the mosque following the blast. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has fallen on the Boko Haram insurgent group, which has carried out numerous suicide bombings and attacks across the region in recent months
