Economic hardship: Alhaji Nejimudeen Gidado bemoans Nigerians living standards

Disturbed by the worrisome standard of living of many Nigerians occasioned by the current economic hardship, a concerned senior citizen, Alhaji Najimudeen Gidado, the CEO of First Consolidated Ventures Limited, has described the situation as not palatable for the citizenry of the nation.
He lamented the situation whereby only very few individuals are smiling, while a larger percentage of the populace are wallowing in abject poverty today.
Reacting to a video clip been circulated on returning to the old National Anthem called Vibing, he said Vibing doesn’t mean affluence, adding that we are in total economic hardship.
Alhaji Gidado made the call over the weekend when he visited his country home of Ado Ekiti.
“We have had a very long gestation period of this economic mess, but the reality is that we are in a state of coma.
According to him; “Dancing or smiling are temporary happiness or joy. When you have a long list of your family members stricken by poverty, then it would be dawn on you about what people face trying to make ends meet.
“Day by day, the situation gets worst, defying every solutions meted out to curtail the biting hardship which has continued to take its toll on Nigerians health.
“Just like a festering wound, the hardship has continued to push more Nigerians into a condition of uncertainty, leading some to committing suicide as they could not feed their family anymore.
“It is indeed, a tale of woes, when someone is working, yet, what he earns is not sufficient enough to cater for his family and the situation continues to get out of hands.
“Prices of commodities have skyrocketed, a situation that has rendered workers’ salaries useless. The situation becomes more hopeless, when one’s salary can’t sustain him for two weeks and for the rest days, he would turn to a beggar until that month ends!”, he lamented.
Speaking further, Alhaji Najimudeen Gidado stressed the urgent need for Nigerians to appeal to President Tinubu to seriously look into insecurity which he described as Nigerians’ biggest problem, saying we need to secure our farmlands to increase food production.
“Insecurity issues has sent farmers back home and the consequences of this is scarcity of food which has made few available ones very expensive and out of reach for the common man.
He condemned flamboyant lifestyle at this crucial stage of the nation, saying
Yoruba has a very strange culture, they dance, sing, and throw lavish parties when they lose their parents.
“Does this make any sense? They will fathom reasons for these wastage when many are retiring to bed in empty stomach.
Alhaji Najimudeen Gidado, however, called on the lawmakers to join hands with the executive to tackle the present situation before it completely gets out of hands.
It would be recalled, that Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
The return of the old anthem, has however, elicited divided opinions, with some commentators criticising the move as yet another case of “misplaced priority” given the myriads of challenges confronting Nigerians.
