— Says Commission Has Yielded Positive Results.
It was a fun-filled interesting atmosphere at the Opolo axis of Yenagoa the Bayelsa State Capital, where a newly renovated and well equipped branch office of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was inaugurated.
The Commissioning which is part of activities marking the 25 years anniversary of NDDC was commissioned by the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede.
The commissioning ceremony, which was attended by dignitaries from the state and federal government top functionaries, EFCC Boss, Mr. Olukoyede, underscores the importance of good governance and transparency in regional development.
He said “I’ve come to identify with NDDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability, and I’m proud to be part of this commissioning ceremony.”
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Olukoyede stressed that the EFCC’s collaboration with NDDC has yielded positive results, further emphasizing the need for synergy between agencies.
He also commended NDDC for its efforts in implementing projects that benefit the people of the region.
Also speaking, NDDC Managing Director, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, explained that the office building was named after Chief Melford Okilo, a pioneer Senator and Governor of Rivers State, due to his vision and leadership as a Federal Lawmaker.
“The reason why we named this building after Chief Melford Okilo is because of his vision and leadership while in the Senate,” he said. ”
He was one of those who drive the process of establishing NDDC, and we are proud to honor his legacy with this beautiful building.”
Chief Ogbuku thanked the Bayelsa State Government for its partnership with NDDC, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving development goals.
“We’ve always said that NDDC is not a government, but an interventionist agency of the federal government, and we can always achieve more if we partner with the state government,” he said.
In his remarks at the commissioning, the Governor of Bayelsa State , His Excellency Senator Douye Diri , who was present as a special guest of honour, in his remarks thanked Dr Samuel Ogbuku-led Management Board of the NDDC, for the beautiful office structure well furnished and equipped as sited in Yenagoa .
Diri who spoke in a delightful tone stated that the decision by the NDDC MD, naming the Yenagoa office after the late Patriarch and former Governor of River State Chief Melford Obiene Okilo, further reveals the commission’s sensitivity and commitment in recognizing those who had contributed immensely to the development of the Niger Delta Region .
The Bayelsa Governor while addressing the audience from all works of life at the event, called on the Federal Government for more partnership to ensure the completion of the Yenagoa -Oporoma Central Senatorial and Sagbama-Ekeremor Bayelsa West Senatorial Roads , which are undergoing construction under his Prosperity Administration .
Senator Diri, specifically extended appreciations to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, on behalf of the people of Bayelsa State , for the approval to take charge of phase 2, of the ongoing Nembe-Brass Road embarked by the Prosperity Government , noting it to be commendable .
While taking a swipe on politics , the miracle Governor admonished politicians to shun bitterness and imbibe in the spirit of unity and love for one another.
He maintained that what is primarily of common concern to all should be the issues of underdevelopment , erosion , poverty rise, crime and other matters that disturbs the growth and people of the Niger Delta Region and not party or personal interests which are secondary.
