EKSG signs MoU with Venite University on the Use of Health Facilities for clinical and practical training of Medical Students

The Ekiti State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Venite University, Iloro-Ekiti on the use of State Specialist Hospital, Ijero Ekiti for clinical and practical training of the Medical Students of the University.
Speaking during the signing of the MOU in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani said that the partnership would enhance the clinical work of the students.
“The purpose of the MoU is to establish a collaborative framework whereby medical students from Venite University will undertake their clinical training and rural practice at designated healthcare facilities under the purview of the Ministry and the Hospital Management Board. The primary facility for the clinical training shall be the State specialist hospital, Ijero Ekiti, with additional health centres serving as rural practice locations”. He said.
Dr Filani who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Human Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, said that the ministry will continue to give necessary support to willing and intending health partners and investors to advance knowledge, research as well as protecting the health of the residents of the state.
The Commissioner assured of the state government’s continued commitment to the health and well-being of the citizens through provision of quality, accessible and affordable healthcare services across the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor James Olaogun said that the vision of the Ivory Tower was to produce World class graduates in all fields of human endeavors.
Professor Olaogun noted that the MoU signing would afford the medical and other health related students opportunity and access to clinical and practical works at the Specialist Hospital. He added that the collaboration would make the medical students better professionals.
“The objective of the MoU was to permit the use of the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero Ekiti as the primary Teaching Hospital for the Venite University medical students within the State as rural practice centres for the Venite University medical students, enabling them to gain hands on experience on community healthcare delivery”. He stated
The University Don commended the state government for the ongoing renovation of hospitals in the state saying such investment would further enhance healthcare service delivery in the state.
Top Officials present at the ceremony include the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr Olasunkanmi Alabi; Director Hospital Services and Training, Dr Olumide Obe; Director Strategy, Advancement and Partnership of Venite University, Mr Oladapo Kolawole; the Registrar of the University , Dr Ezekiel Agbaje as well as the University’s Head of General works Mr Joseph Adebayo.
