Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned from his position as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing health reasons for his decision.

The former Kano State governor announced on Friday that he needs to step down to focus on his well-being.

Following his resignation, the APC’s National Vice Chairman is expected to assume leadership in an acting capacity pending the party’s national convention scheduled for December.

The move, it is understood follows intense pressure from stakeholders within the APC, especially from the North Central zone, who have repeatedly called for the chairmanship position to return to their region.

Ganduje’s resignation also comes amid mounting internal opposition over his leadership style and the party’s internal power dynamics.

It is understood that former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is being persuaded by President Bola Tinubu to join the party.

A senior official at the APC national secretariat confirmed the development but declined to speak further.

“Between me and you, it is true, but I can’t confirm officially — and please don’t quote me,” the source said
