Gov. Aiyedatiwa hosts Ondo Muslims for Special Iftar, reiterates commitment to development
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday, hosted a special Iftar (breaking of fast) with the Muslim community of the state, held at the International Culture and Events Centre (The DOME) in Akure.
The Governor urged the Muslim community to use the Holy Month of Ramadan as an opportunity to pray for peace, security, and national stability, emphasizing the power of prayers in shaping a prosperous future.
Muslim faithful from across Ondo State gathered for the occasion, which was marked by prayers, goodwill messages, and a special lecture.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Dhrulai Adams Chandy, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support for the Muslim community.
He commended Mr. Governor for fulfilling his promises and assured him of the continued support of Muslims in the state.
Prominent Islamic clerics led special prayers for the nation, the state, and the Governor’s administration.
The Chief Imam of Ondo City, Sheikh Bashir Alimi, prayed for Nigeria, while the Chief Imam of Ikare Akoko offered prayers for the government and people of Ondo State.
The Chief Imam of Owo, through his representative, prayed specifically for the Governor and his team.
The highlight of the event was a special lecture delivered by Sheikh Batuta, the Grand Mufti of Ondo State, who emphasised the significance of unity, governance, and spiritual dedication.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Grand Imam of Akure Kingdom, Sheikh Al-Imam Abdul Hakeem Yayi-Akorede, outlined the Governor’s achievements within his first 30 days in office.
These included the prompt payment of civil servants’ salaries, payment of WAEC fees for students, employment of 1,000 teachers, procurement of firefighting equipment, and the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic to a university, etc.
He also urged the Governor to appoint key Muslims into strategic positions within the state government
In his response, Governor Aiyedatiwa appreciated the Muslim community for their prayers and emphasised the need for continuous supplication for the state and the nation, especially in light of rising insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting the grace to witness another Ramadan, describing the period as a time of spiritual reflection, self-purification, and renewed faith.
He lauded the harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians in Ondo State and reiterated his commitment to his administration’s Odatiwa Odidọrun agenda.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olayide Adelami, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and key cabinet members such as Dr. Seun Osamaye, Special Adviser on Women Affairs; Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; and Engineer Johnson Alabi, Special Adviser on Power, the Chairman Akure South local Government Mr. Gbenga Fasua. Also in attendance was former deputy governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ladidi Oluboyo, Dr. Abbass Mimiko and many others.
Other dignitaries includes Muslim Traditional rulers, the Olubaka of Oka represented by Alhaji Jimoh Aiyemowa, the Onirese of Irese, Oba Destiny Saka Ahmed, Onibuji of Ibuji Oba Sumonu Folagbade and many business mogul, Alhaji Rauf Ademola Omo Oroki, Director Adebimpe Hotels Osogbo, Alhaji Musbau Iyiola Director Star bread and many others.
