The Dakaci of Tunga Maje, in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, HRH Chief Salihu Isiaku Na’Annabi, Tsumaje of Tunga Maje, has urged the government to subsidize agriculture and food production in the area, particularly, and Nigeria at large.
Speaking recently to newsmen in his palace in Tunga Maje recently, he said: ” Our major occupation here is farming. The increasing cost of fertilizer and pesticides is affecting output of food. President Bola Tinubu should subsidize their prices. Last year, food was very expensive, but this year, it has reduced because many people have gone into farming,” he pointed out.
Salihu, who has been on the throne for seven years, said all the people of Tunga Maje have received from the inception of the Tinubu administration are solar streetlights from the local government led by Hon. Jibrin Abu Giri.
“I thank him for this effort in lighting up Tunga Maje as the people now experience better security at night but the people need more,” he explained adding that, “we need potable water from the government as the people are suffering to get water especially in the dry season. We need potable water from SMEDAN to Gwagwalada through Giri and Zuba.”
Other areas he wants the government to assist the people include: the construction of the internal roads in Tunga Maje as many of them are not motorable; assistance to complete the Police Station that has been started already by the people using community funds to check crime in the area; the supply of transformers to boost electricity and their migration from 11 KVA to 33 KVA, as this is affecting the prices of services like grinding and water.
He also called on the FCT Minister, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike, to “know we have land that need to be developed into markets as the market currently being used is too small for the people and holds every four days. The other markets that could be developed include Abattoir, International Abattoir, Grain and Cattle Markets.”
He also asked for a big hospital due to the growing population in the area.
He concluded by urging the people to unite and speak with one voice at all times and continue to support the Agora of Gwagwalada, the chairman of the council, the Minster of the Federal Capital Territory and President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, irrespective of tribe or religion.
