Kebbi Assembly Inaugurates Committee on Mining and Solid Minerals

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the solid minerals sector.

The Committee with the inauguration of a committee on solid minerals and mining. This development is particularly timely, given the recent guidelines issued by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development on Community Development Agreements.

The committee, inaugurated by Speaker Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, is chaired by Hon. Aminu Abubakar Gulumbe, with Muhammad Tukur Giron Masa serving as vice chairman. Other members include Hon. Umar Salah Sambawa, Hon. Faruku Aliyu Nassarawa Jega, Hon. Umar Hassan Namoroko, Hon. Adamu Muhammad Birnin Yauri, Hon. Hashimu Usman Inimbiro, Hon. Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, and Hon. Lawal Haruna Gele, with Aminu Abdullahi as secretary.

According to Speaker Zuru, the committee’s primary objective is to boost efforts to optimize the solid minerals sector’s contribution to the economy. As the sector grows, effective regulation and oversight become increasingly crucial. The committee will focus on ensuring that mining operations adhere to environmental and social standards and benefit local communities.

This inauguration demonstrates the Kebbi State House of Assembly’s commitment to responsible mining practices and community development. The committee’s work will be instrumental in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable development in the solid minerals sector.
