The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, has led a government delegation to the Senior Executive Course 47 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), holding in Kuru, near Jos.
Senator Tafida, representing Governor Nasir Idris, is billed to deliver a paper titled “Fishing Tourism and Sustainable Development in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges and Prospects on the Argungu Fishing Festival.”

On the delegation are the Head of Service, Alhaji Malami Shekare; Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Sani Aliyu; Commissioner for Livestock Development and Fisheries, Alhaji Kabiru Usman Alaramma; Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK; Director General of the Argungu Fishing Festival, Alhaji Safiyanu Bena, and other top officials.
The paper will examine Nigeria’s fisheries industry, drawing insights from the origins and historical background of Argungu, the cradle of the Kebbi Empire and birthplace of the world-famous Argungu Fishing and Cultural Festival.
It will also spotlight the contributions of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, especially in job creation through tourism, hotel management, foreign exchange generation, transportation and other coastal-related activities.
Officials said Kebbi’s engagement at NIPSS presents a strategic opportunity to connect with high-level local and international stakeholders, foster impactful relationships and attract partnerships that will accelerate the state’s economic development.
