In its determination to reconcile party members in Osun State chapter of All progressive Congress APC who were aggrieved by the failure of the party to win the last Governorship Election in the State ,immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola has appealed to all aggrieved members to put their differences aside and come together.
Oyetola spoke while inaugurating
11-man Committee on the repositioning of Osun APC for effective delivery which was held on Monday at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office, Osogbo.
His words “I am delighted to welcome you all to the inauguration of the 11-member Committee
put together to help reposition our party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Osun for effective delivery.
“Before today’s event, I had held a series of meetings with all strata of the party, including the Igbimo Agba, the leadership of the party, critical stakeholders and the youth, to chart a new course for the APC in Osun. It was the outcomes of those meetings that informed the setting up of this committee.
“Osun undoubtedly remains the home of the progressives in the South West. We must, therefore, take necessary and decisive steps to reposition the party and make it stronger and more formidable.
After the 2018 governorship election, the outcome of the 2019 General Elections showed significant improvement in the party’s fortunes in our State.
Despite the challenges of the July 16 2022, governorship election, the number of votes harvested by our party in that election significantly improved from what we recorded in 2018. This clearly shows that our party, the APC is still popular and remains the party to beat in Osun, any time, any day.
Osun electorate again demonstrated their love for the APC in the last Presidential election as they gave our president-elect 343,945 votes, despite the intimidation, violence and killings that characterised that election.
” At the last count, we lost 25 of our members across the State during the last three elections. At this juncture, shall will rise for a minute silence in honour of our members that were killed just because they identified with us. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace. Amen.
If the Osun electorate could identify with us despite the intimidation, harrassment, violence and killings perpetrated by the PDP, then, we must brace up to sustain the interest of the Osun people in our party.
To do that, we must also not gloss over some of the challenges caused by the excesses of some members of the party, some leaders and elected officials. Hence, the inauguration of this Committee.
The Committee, under the leadership of the former Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, would have the following as its Terms of Reference review activities of the party in recent times.
Also to consider the aspect of Party administration, i.e. structure, funding, discipline and reconciliation and make recommendations for an ethical reward system in Osun State amongst others
According to former Governor the Committee is also at liberty to co-opt any member of the party it deems essential to the task given to it. The Committee has eight weeks within which to submit its report.
“Let me, at this juncture, appeal to our party members and supporters across the State not to allow themselves to be intimidated. They will want to harass you but do not be cowed. They will even want to provoke you. But do not allow yourself to be provoked. I appeal to you to maintain the peace, religious tolerance and harmonious relationship our State is known for. Soon, we shall see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“You all made this day possible. You unanimously supported the idea of having this Committee with a view to charting a new course for our party. This address will not be complete without paying glowing tributes to our elders and party stakeholders for accepting to serve on this Committee. Posterity will always be kind to you all.
“It is, therefore, my honour and privilege to inaugurate this Committee to the glory of God and for the future and benefit of APC and Osun State.” he stated .
Speaking ,the speaker of Osun State House of Assembly Rt Hon Timothy Owoeye said anybody found to be guilty of any form of Anti-party will be punished
His said “All those that are involved in anti-party affairs during the last elections. Those that are loyal to the party wholeheartedly will be rewarded greatly and God will continue to bless you.
“Some of our party members went to Ibadan to hold conspiracy meetings with PDP. I implore the committee to do justice while reviewing the activities of the party, recommend appropriate punishment for party members who err.
The chairman of the committee professor Issac Ajewole assured that they will carry their responsibility deligently and ensure inclusiveness of all party faithful
He admitted that the tasks is enormous but promised that all effort were geared reconciliation and making the party formidable .
