Palace unveils Coronation activities for Owa Adesuyi Haastrup


The Palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesa land has released a detailed schedule of events ahead of the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, as the 41st monarch of the ancient kingdom.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Chief Shola Oshunkeye, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the Coronation Committee.
Owa Haastrup, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and a billionaire business magnate, was declared the successor to the late Owa, His Imperial Majesty, Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, on December 27, 2024.
According to Chief Oshunkeye, the 10-day celebration will begin on May 16, 2025, and culminate in the grand coronation ceremony on May 23, 2025.

“All activities are scheduled to take place in Ilesa, the cultural and political nerve centre of Ijesa land, in what promises to be a rare display of royal splendour.
The festivities will commence on Friday, May 16, with a special Jumat Service at the Ilesa Central Mosque, starting at 1pm.
“The next day, Saturday, May 17, will feature a vibrant cultural celebration at the newly refurbished Obokungbusi Hall from 10am to 4pm.
“Later that night, from 9pm, the palace courtyard will host a grand Isese Night, celebrating the rich traditions and customs of the Ijesa people.
“On Monday, May 19, royal visits to Ijesa zones are scheduled between 10am and 4pm. Tuesday, May 20, will kick off with the Owa Ajimoko III Ijesa Marathon at 7am, followed by the finals of the coronation football competition, a medal presentation, and an awards ceremony at the Ilesa Grammar School sports arena starting at 10am.
“Wednesday, May 21, is set aside for outreach to various orphanages in and around Ilesa, where notable individuals will engage in charity visits from 10am.
“The day will continue with a video documentary and a workshop organised by the Ijesa Mineral Resources Development Forum at the University of Ilesa.
“Sporting excitement resumes on Thursday, May 22, with the Ajimoko III Coronation Golf Kitty, teeing off at 8am. This will be followed at 11am by a symposium and the launch of the Ajimoko III Foundation’s scholarship and empowerment programme at the Royal Park International Hotel and Resort, Iloko-Ijesa.
“The much-anticipated coronation of His Imperial Majesty will take place at the Owa’s Palace on Friday, May 23, 2025, beginning at 10am.
“The ceremony is expected to be a grand affair steeped in tradition and cultural pride.
“A lavish coronation reception will follow at 1pm at the Ilesa Grammar School, with dignitaries and VVIPs treated to the finest of Ijesa hospitality and a carnival atmosphere set to leave a lasting impression.
“The week-long celebration will conclude on Sunday, May 25, with an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Methodist Church, Otapete, Ilesa, starting at 10am”, the statement stated.
