Police foil kidnapping in Kebbi, rescue victim, recover ₦3m

The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully neutralised four suspected kidnappers, arrested one person, and recovered ₦3 million intended for ransom payment.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the incident occurred on 14th February 2025 at about 13:45 hrs when armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, invaded Gobiraje village in Suru Local Government Area and abducted one Umaru Bawa, a 60-year-old man.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Suru swiftly mobilised a team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene.

The operatives tracked the suspects to Tundafari forest in the Dakingari axis, where they engaged them in a fierce gun duel.

As a result, four of the kidnappers were neutralised, while one was arrested with fatal injuries.

The remaining suspects fled into the forest with gunshot wounds.

Additionally, the police successfully rescued the kidnapped victim unharmed and recovered ₦3 million, which had already been paid to the kidnappers as ransom.

Commending the officers for their resilience, professionalism, and gallantry, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.

He also urged the peace-loving people of Kebbi to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station for prompt action.
