Residents hail Aiyedatiwa’s administration as Ondo records flood-free 2025
Residents across Akure South, Odigbo, and several other local government areas of Ondo State have applauded the state government for its unprecedented commitment to erosion and flood control, describing 2025 as a remarkably flood-free year.
Communities such as Fiwasaye, Ijapo Extension/Otenioro, and Oke Ijebu, once notorious for recurrent flooding, expressed delight that the government’s Swamp Boogie machines were deployed promptly this year, without the usual bureaucratic bottlenecks or formal requests.
Similarly, the people of Odigbo Local Government Area lauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for extending government attention to their communities after what they described as “decades of neglect of Sebo river.”
Speaking with journalists in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Matters, Hon. Elisha Ebijimi, attributed the success to the government’s proactive measures and sustained investment in flood mitigation projects.
“For the past two weeks, our team has been working intensively across different local government areas,” he said.
“We have been tackling flood challenges since last year, and this year, the effort has continued.
It is the first time in the history of Ondo State that we have not recorded any flooding.”
Ebijimi further disclosed that the state’s outstanding performance had earned it national recognition, revealing that Ondo State would receive a Performance Award in Abuja by the end of November.
“This award is coming as a result of the impact of our work on behalf of the state government.
It is a recognition of Ondo’s commitment to effective flood management,” he added.
According to him, dredging and channelisation projects have been successfully executed in Akure South, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, Akoko South-West, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, and Idanre, with ongoing works in Odigbo and Ilaje Local Government Areas.
He noted that residents of the affected communities have expressed delight over the visible transformation of their environments.
Ebijimi, however, cautioned residents against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels, describing the act as a major contributor to flooding.
“I want to appeal to the good people of Ondo State to stop the illegal dumping of refuse in drainages across the state.
” It is harmful and counterproductive,” he warned.
