Stop blaming police, support security efforts, PCRC tells residents

By Ibrahim Kilani

The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Okeagbe Police Division, Chief Musa Eleyinta, has said that security is a collective responsibility that should not be left in the hands of the police alone.

Eleyinta made the assertion while addressing residents in the Akoko area of Ondo State, where he urged communities to stop blaming security agencies for the rising insecurity around the Isua Akoko axis.

According to him, residents have critical roles to play in safeguarding their communities, stressing that meaningful collaboration between the people and security operatives remains the most effective strategy for tackling crime.

He called on communities across Akoko to emulate the example of Ajowa Akoko, where residents have taken proactive steps to support security efforts by installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations.

He added that the community had also provided means of transportation and communication gadgets for local vigilante groups to enhance their operations.

The PCRC chairman further appealed to well-to-do individuals to assist security agencies with mobility, communication tools and other logistics that would make their job easier.

“Government alone cannot be saddled with everything. Security is everybody’s business,” he said.

Eleyinta also reminded residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or strange activities to the police for immediate action.

He, however, warned against jungle justice, stressing that suspects apprehended for criminal acts should be handed over to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation and prosecution.
