Trump’s administration, recalls US envoy to Nigeria, others 

The United States government under President Donald Trump has withdrawn its Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills Jr, alongside 29 other career diplomats serving as ambassadors and top embassy officials in various countries.

Mills, who assumed office on July 25, 2024, is among several heads of mission affected as Washington undertakes a reorganisation of its diplomatic presence across the globe.

Reports by Blueprint.ng indicated that 13 African countries were impacted by the move, which is said to be part of a wider strategy to realign diplomatic postings with President Trump’s “America First” policy orientation.

The Associated Press also reported that mission chiefs in no fewer than 29 countries were notified last week that their assignments would come to an end in January, quoting two State Department officials who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

The report added that most of the diplomats were appointed during the administration of Joe Biden but had remained in office after an earlier round of changes carried out in the initial months of Trump’s second term, which mainly affected political appointees
