The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect accused of fatally stabbing a security officer assigned to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II during the Eid prayers in Kano.
According to an official police statement, the tragic incident occurred at the Eid prayer ground on Sunday, where the officer was on duty providing security for the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The attack also left another security personnel injured, who is currently receiving medical treatment at Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano city.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed that an investigation into the matter has been launched. As part of the probe, a palace official, identified as ‘Shamakin Kano’ Wada Isyaku, has been invited for questioning.

“The police have commenced a thorough investigation into the incident and have invited the Kano Emirate’s Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for further questioning,” Kiyawa stated.

This development comes amid heightened tensions in Kano, where Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero both continue to assert claims to the throne.

In response to the fragile security situation, the police had earlier announced a ban on the traditional Sallah procession in the state, citing concerns over potential unrest.

The Kano State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order while urging residents to remain law-abiding as investigations into the incident progress.
