Tinubu’s Ministerial Picks Pass Senate Scrutin

The Upper House of the Nigerian Senate has given the green light to President Bola Tinubu’s selection of seven ministerial nominees following a thorough vetting process last week.
Following a recent cabinet reshuffle orchestrated by President Tinubu, which saw a reorganization of ministerial positions, the nominees underwent rigorous screening by the Senate’s committee at a plenary session.
Nentawe Yilwatda has been confirmed as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour and Employment, and Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Other successful nominees include Jumoke Oduwole, who will serve as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Idi Maiha as Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
During the confirmation process, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, formerly Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, was lauded by Senators for her previous accomplishments. She highlighted concerns about the deteriorating condition of Nigeria’s embassies overseas due to inadequate funding, emphasizing the importance of presenting a positive image of Nigeria on the global stage.
Senators commended President Tinubu for prioritizing the qualifications and abilities of the nominees over their political affiliations, showcasing the administration’s commitment to national cohesion.
In his remarks, Senate President Goodwill Akpabio congratulated the newly appointed ministers and urged them to hit the ground running in their respective roles for the betterment of the nation.
