Adeleke defeats Oyebamiji, clinches Osun Governorship Poll

Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured a second term in office after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 491,975 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 425,731 votes.

The incumbent governor won by a margin of 66,244 votes.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 16,513 votes, while the remaining political parties shared the other valid votes recorded in the election.

Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.

INEC declared Adeleke the winner after determining that he had secured the highest number of votes and satisfied the constitutional requirement for geographical spread.

The declaration followed the collation of results from all 30 local government areas at the state collation centre in Osogbo.

Adeleke, who first became governor after winning the 2022 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will now serve a second term under the Accord Party.

His victory marks the Accord Party’s first governorship election victory in Osun State.
