WHEN MEN LOOK LIKE WOMEN
‘Femi Adekunle on Parenting
This is one matter that has engaged my deepest thoughts for quite a while as I have thought endlessly about it.
I saw a beautiful child strutting about the premises. The child has his hair braided and an earring on one ear. That aroused my curiosity as I thought that the mum, who was nearby, could not have made a mistake leaving the other ear of her daughter unadorned. Alas, the child is a boy.
When my generation was growing up, men dressed like men and women like women. It was easy to identify either gender. Today, things have changed. It has become quite ‘fashionable’ for men to adorn stuff traditionally meant for women. Men these days have gotten quite comfortable to braid hair, wear earrings on both ears as well as nose rings. The influence of Western musical icons is no doubt highly influential on this generation. Young people copy blindly what they do while not caring a hoot about cultural correctness.
The truth is that the plaiting of hair by a man or even the wearing of earrings is not necessarily a barometer for measuring his rectitude and even character. I have seen many responsible men plait their hair and wear earrings. Many of them are ushers, choristers, and even pastors/preachers in our churches. Am I saying it’s the right way to go? Absolutely no. For people who are Christians, let the Holy Spirit do His work in every man. This is less of concern to me as the next:
The one that bothers me is the feminisation and sissification of male babies by contemporary parents. A boy is a boy, and a girl is a girl. But what do we see nowadays? We see a lovely, cute baby boy with his hair all plaited and ears adorned with rings. Sometimes, you have to probe the parents and ask for the gender, and they proudly announce with a silly grin, “oh, he’s a boy”. Should that need a mechanical device to detect? Shouldn’t that be visible?
Now, this is the danger. Much as I have seen many parents who sissify their sons, I have not seen many who want them to be gay or transgender. What an irony! The LGBT scourge sweeping the West is already a threat to families globally. The acronym for this plague seems to be elongating by the day. Now, it has grown to LGBTQQIP2SAA. Whatever that means. Even the acronym looks unsightly and repulsive. Many parents whose children have gone the LGBT way are groaning under the torment of pain and are seeking divine intervention for the deliverance and sanity of their children. Yet, some parents with their hands ‘demasculinise’ their innocent male children make them look like girls and unwittingly push them into the vile arena of depravity. When they grow up and go the homosexual or transgender way, will they be man enough to admit that they sowed the evil seed?
Feminisation of male children is one of the silliest and dumbest parenting indiscretions I have identified.
