Rep Oshun Empowers Constituents, pledges commitment to deliver dividends of democracy
A member of Nigerian House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Constituency, Lagos State, Hon. Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun, has empowered over 200 beneficiaries across all wards through an intensive one-week training program focused on human development and self-sufficiency.
Rep.Moshood Oshun also pledged commitment to deliver dividends of democracy to his constituents through impactful initiatives, legislation and programs aimed at transforming their lives.
The Lagos State federal lawmaker in a steadfast demonstration of leadership rooted in service, ranging from empowering local residents through vocational training and distributing food relief to spearheading infrastructure development and driving progressive legislation, said his commitment to development remains unmistakably firm.
Rep Oshun has remained a beacon of hope for many in the Lagos Mainland area by championing entrepreneurship and financial inclusion.
In his latest initiative, he empowered 200 constituents from all wards through an intensive one-week training program focused on human development and self-sufficiency.
The training covered several critical areas including make-up, wig making, event decoration and management, poultry and fishery management, as well as broader entrepreneurship and human development topics.
This follows his earlier support for over 600 constituents through similar skill acquisition programmes, reinforcing his focus on building financial independence and long-term economic stability across the constituency.
Beneficiaries have hailed the initiative for equipping them with market-relevant skills that can lead to gainful employment or self-owned businesses.
In direct response to the economic strain caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, Hon. Oshun launched a massive food relief effort, distributing over 8,000 food palliatives to households across Lagos Mainland. On December 15, 2023, more than 5,000 families received essential supplies including rice and other food items.
This intervention, done in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and BLOMAT Global Concept, also involved the provision of agricultural inputs, serving as a buffer against the rising cost of living. Oshun further called on well-meaning individuals and organisations within Lagos Mainland to support the equitable distribution of these “Super Palliatives” to the most vulnerable.
Recognising the vital role of education in community development, Hon. Oshun facilitated the construction and full furnishing of classrooms at St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Ebute-Metta. The renovated school now boasts modern learning facilities including desks, chairs, and instructional materials, providing a conducive atmosphere for academic excellence.
Infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of Oshun’s constituency projects.
He has led the installation of solar-powered streetlights in 13 strategic locations across Lagos Mainland, enhancing security, promoting clean energy, and improving night-time visibility.
Areas covered include Adeshina/Lawani Street (Onike), Harvey Road (Sabo), Evans Square (Adekunle), Kadara (Ebute-Metta), and several others including police stations and schools.
Furthermore, the rehabilitation and asphalt paving of roads such as Monsuro, Davids, and Ebun Streets in Abule-Oja have improved accessibility and ease of transport for commuters and residents alike.
In addressing clean water access, Hon. Oshun facilitated the installation of boreholes at Panti Police Station, Destitute Home in Okobaba, Makoko Road (Railway Compound Freeman), and Oguntuga Street in Abule-Ijesha, directly tackling water scarcity issues.
On the legislative front, Oshun has not been silent. He has moved motions addressing the devastating flood and erosion incidents in Makoko and Otumara communities; the need to curb exorbitant airfares by international airlines operating in Nigeria; introducing mandatory drug testing for secondary school students; and implementing global standards within Nigeria’s National Policy on Education.
Hon. Oshun has also played an active legislative role by sponsoring critical bills aimed at enhancing national development.
