NUJ Indoor Games Commence in Yenagoa.
The indoor games organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Bayelsa State Council, as part of activities marking its 2025 Press Week began on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the state capital, amidst fanfare among media practitioners.
The annual Press Week with the theme “Media, Social Justice and National Development” commenced on Monday with an awareness walk from the Peace Park to the NUJ Press Centre, Ekeki.
Tosan Enoma of the Federal Radio Corporation, FRCN in table tennis beat David Akpeki of the Information Chapel 2-1 in a game of three sets. David Akpeki won the first set 21-18, Tosan bounced back in the last two sets 21-16, 21-19 to triumph.
Chris Mark of the United Correspondents Chapel took Desire Oruwari of New Waves to the cleansers 21-18, 21-12 to set up a semi finals encounter with Enoma Tosan on Wednesday while Kumo Amgbare of the United Correspondents Chapel will face Lagumo Ogbara of Information Chapel.
Glad Yakie of Radio Bayelsa emerged champion in Chess, dethroning Kingsley Abidde, who finished second having defeated Moye Stephen of Golden FM as Epiri Izibalua of New Waves settled for the third position.
Eyal Ikisikpo of the Federal Radio Corporation, FRCN in Ludo, beat Queen Preye of the Information Chapel 2-1 to keep her hopes of winning the prize money intact.
Tarabina Sunday and Purome Ipigansi both from information chapel have progressed to the final in Scrabble. Purome Ipigansi beat defending champion, Ebi Appah of Radio Bayelsa to qualify for the final while Tarabina Sunday defeated George Ameli of the Niger Delta Television, NDTV to reach the final.
In draughts, it was an all Information Chapel affair as Tarabina Sunday beat the duo of Dominic Sunny and Nicodemus Dauebi to clinch the ultimate prize. Dominic Sunny and Nicodemus Dauebi came second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated novelty match between NUJ FC and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB FC decided at the Government House pitch ended in a barren draw.
The games will continue on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 12.30pm at the NUJ Press Centre Ekeki, Yenagoa.
