Ondo police command arrests 62-year-old over alleged abuse of minor.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 62-year-old man, Imeje Mathew, over allegations of defiling a 12-year-old girl in Akure.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s PPRO, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident was reported by the victim’s mother, Adebayo Sefunmi, of Oluwatuyi.
She alleged that the suspect lured her daughter into a nearby bush under the guise of assisting her after she visited his shop to charge a phone, where he allegedly committed the offence.
The police said preliminary investigations have commenced and the matter has been referred to the Gender-Based Offences Unit for discreet investigation.
The victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the suspect remains in custody awaiting further legal action.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting women and children, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the force would ensure diligent prosecution if the allegations are substantiated.
The command also commended members of the public for reporting the case and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist in swift law enforcement intervention.
Investigation into the matter is ongoing.
