Insecurity: Sunday Igboho seeks FG’s nod to launch ‘Iru Ekun’ security network in South-West

Amid growing concerns over insecurity in the South-West, Yoruba nation agitator, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has revealed plans to launch a private security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, pending approval from the Federal Government.
Igboho also pledged to comply with the recent Executive Order introduced by the Oyo State Government regulating the operations of private security organisations within the state.
In a statement issued to journalists on Monday, the activist revealed that all necessary documents and operational procedures required for the registration of the security outfit had already been submitted to the Federal Government.
According to him, the security network is designed to complement conventional security agencies in addressing the growing insecurity, particularly in rural communities frequently targeted by kidnappers and armed gangs.
“We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, Iru Ekun Security Network, and are only awaiting Federal Government approval, which we believe will be granted soon,” he said.
Igboho expressed readiness to collaborate with security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to strengthen efforts against insecurity in the South-West.
“We are fully prepared to work with the police, DSS, Nigerian Army, NSCDC and other relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and other hoodlums threatening the peace and safety of our people, especially those in rural communities,” he added.
The activist commended the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as its commitment to tackling insecurity across the country.
“It is evident that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is determined to confront criminality, not only in the South-West but also in other parts of the country facing security challenges,” he stated.
Igboho further assured Seyi Makinde of his willingness to operate within the framework of the new executive order regulating private security outfits in Oyo State.
“We are also ready to comply with the executive order issued by Governor Seyi Makinde to regulate the activities of private security organisations,” he said.
He stressed that security remains critical to economic growth, agricultural productivity and the protection of livelihoods in rural communities.
“Without peace and security, socio-economic development cannot thrive, particularly in rural communities that serve as the hub of agricultural production and food security,” the statement added.
The development comes amid growing concerns over persistent cases of kidnapping, banditry and violent attacks in parts of the South-West and other regions of the country, with increasing calls for stronger community-based security initiatives to complement conventional security operations.
