Barr Binalayefa Osuluku has emerged the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the November 11 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.
Osuluku who was declared winner at the party’s primaries conducted at the SDP state secretariat swali, Yenagoa .defeated one other aspirant to clinch the party’s ticket.
Declaring the results,in a keenly contested election,Chairman of the SDP Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam who was represented by the electoral committee chairman for the gubernatorial primary Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Biu said Binalayefa Osuluku polled 151 votes to defeat his only rival Mrs Ebinabo Doibo who got 111 votes.
He also said 407 was the total number of expected voters, while 262 voters were accredited in which all the 262 voted in the primary.
In his acceptance speech,Barr Binalayefa Osuluku, thanked stakeholders, members and his fellow contestant in the election for displaying discipline before, during and after the exercise, adding that the process to victory in the general election had just started.
He appreciated the party for finding him worthy to lead at a time Bayelsans needed good governance, stating that with him and the support of everyone victory in the general election was sure.
Osuluku maintained that his vision for Bayelsa State as a crusader for social justice is to stand on the tenants and principle of social justice that believes in equality, accessibility,equal participation,gender equality amongst others.
He noted that Bayelsa State and Bayelsians are in dire need of a competent leader that is passionate about the yearnings of the people and not a tyrant as a leader,adding that he potend a new Bayelsa.
“Bayelsa State is one of the state that is contributing immensely to the revenue of this nation but unfortunately if you look round the State our developmental stride is so slow and need to be push that’s why am here and believe with God by our side we will succeed”he said.
In his closing remark chairman of the party in Bayelsa State,Mr Allen Amadein,called on other parties to emulate the SDP for conducting a free,fair and credible primary while condemning the act of violence that rocked other parties primaries.
He also called on Bayelsians to vote for the party candidate saying that is a young and dynamic leader that Bayelsians can trust and can transform the state for the betterment of all.
He added that” The SDP governorship candidate will move from ward to ward door to door ,house to house,local government to local government to ensure that we spread the news for SDP to take over Bayelsa.
