Osun election: Gunshots spark panic in Osogbo as results emerge

Sporadic gunshots around the Olaiya area of Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Saturday night sent residents scrambling for safety as political parties awaited the outcome of the governorship election.

Residents reportedly scampered to safety as the sound of gunfire sent a wave of fear through the area.

The incident occurred several hours after voting ended across the state, with polling-unit results still being uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal as the collation process continued.

The cause of the gunshots was not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.

The development further heightened tension across the state as political parties and their supporters awaited the completion of the collation exercise and the declaration of the final results.
