Importance Of APWEN To The Development Of Societal Growth. By Chris Mark

The importance of female engineers to the development of society has again been re-emphasized by the Director of Bayelsa State Electricity Board,Engr Olice Kemenanabo.

The DG,stated this at this year’s Association Of Professional Women Engineers Of Nigeria (APWEN) on the theme:”Make Safety Seen”.on Thursday 20th July at the NSE Secretariat Complex,Ovom, Yenagoa Bayelsa State.

According to Kemenanabo, women are always good at whatever they find themselves doing and if more women are into engineering profession devoid of stigmatization the problems facing the nation would have been surmounted.

While explaining on the theme,the Bayelsa State Electricity Boss,said safety remains the fundamental role of every engineering infrastructure,operations and administration.

He added that “the most aspect of safety is for you to be conscious of safety itself, without safety you will not be able to dwel in any environment particularly in structures”

Earlier the chairman of The Association of Professional Women Engineers Of Nigeria,Engr.Diepriye Owana-Omubo said the aim of APWEN is to encourage women participation in the profession educationally and personally so as to be at per with their male counterpart.

She said in a bid to encourage women participation in engineering a team was set up to enlighten women and the girl child with the intent to enhance their abilities from primary, secondary, university level,mentoring them as well having carrier talk and guidance with them.

Engr Owana-Omubo, explained that to be a member of APWEN, someone must be an engineering student as undergraduate member and corporate membership for those who have graduated.

Also speaking miss Obaji Mbaba,an engineering student of the Federal University of Otuoke (FUO) applauded the organisers for putting up an inspiring program that has motivated her to pursue her career.

Her words “Coming for this program it has been helpful to me because initially i didn’t aim to study engineering but was offered engineering in school,so i choosed the course though difficult but coming for this program have changed my view and am going to pursue my career”.
