Ebizimor Jumbo of Royal FM chapel popularly known as (Doctor Fish), Amatare Mizimo and Akam James have emerged champions in the NUJ indoor games as part of activities lined up to mark the 2023 press week.
Doctor Fish beat Addy Cyril of Radio Bayelsa 2-0 in two set 21-12, 21-19 to retain his crown for the third consecutive time while Tosan Enoma of the Federal Radio Corporation, FRCN defeated Chris Mark of United Correspondent Chapel 2-0, 21-15, 21-12 in both sets in the loser final.
Amatare Mizimo in Chess dethroned last year’s champion Lawrence Berezi of FRCN in a keenly contested game while Hananeel Jackson went home with the bronze.
In Ludo Akam James of the United Correspondent Chapel proved that men can also play Ludo as he took Williams Bassey to the cleaners in the final with Bassey settling for second, Emem Idio of the Federated Correspondent Chapel finished third.
In what could be described as the highlight of the NUJ indoor games saw Mongopio of the Ministry of Information chapel as champion in the food competition with one minute 55 sec, Chris Mark came second with one minute 57 sec, Japhet Deimode third on two minutes zero point six secs in the absence of defending champion Isaac Eyedoudegha of People’s FM.
Earlier in the indoor games, David Amabra of the Niger Delta Television NDTV chapel and Sunday Tarabina of the Ministry of Information chapel emerged winners in Scrabble and Draught
Amabra beat Tarabina to clinch the ultimate prize in Scrabble with a cumulative of 397 as against Tarabina’s 346 who had earlier beaten Federal Radio Corporations Tosan Enoma to settle for third position.
