MARRIED MAN, 47, FACES LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR SLEEPING WITH GIRL, 16, IN HOTEL
A 47-year old married man, Yisa Ebenezer, may spend the rest of his life in prison custody for allegedly luring and sleeping with a 16-year old girl in a hotel in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ebenezer was been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened on 26th May, 2024, at a hotel located at Olinibua Street, Ijegun area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect lured the girl to the hotel and engaged her in sex romp. And having satisfied himself, he allowed her to go. But the victim realized herself after the act and informed her parents about what happened.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
During interrogation, he admitted to have done so but with the girl’s consent and as such, it was not a case of rape or defilement.
However, the Police found him culpable for engaging a minor in sex and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 17th July, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction
