Represented by his commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Muazu, he stated that his administration is keen to provide the necessary tools that would motivate farmers across the 21 local government areas and 225 wards of the state, towards enhancing national food security.
He said last year, fertilisers, 5000 solar powered irrigation machines, and other implements were procured and distributed free to farmers in the state to boost food production and minimise attendant cost of production in the state.
Dr Idris reiterated his administration’s support to onion farmers to achieve their targeted objectives, while urging them to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by KADAGE initiative to boost onions production, processing and exporting.

The governor announced a donation of N10 million to the National Onions Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), to enhance the smooth hosting of the conference.
Delegates from about 15 countries attended the 2-day International Onions Conference held in Sokoto, from 15th to 16th October.

The event was declared opened by the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu-Sokoto in company of the executive director of Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Nonye Ayeni.
